Copyright, Plagiarism, and Fair Use

Copyright- the exclusive right to make copies, license, and otherwise exploit aliterary, musical, or artistic work, whether printed, audio, video, etc.:works granted such right by law on or after January 1, 1978, areprotected for the lifetime of the author or creator and for a period of 70years after his or her death.

 

Plagiarism-

an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author.

Fair Use-

a legal doctrine that portions of copyrighted materials may be used without permission of the copyright owner provided the use is fair and reasonable, does not substantially impair the value of the materials, and does not curtail the profits reasonably expected by the owner.
